Commuters in Rome and throughout Italy can expect two public transport strikes this week, as the result of nationwide action by trade unions representing transport workers.

The strike on Wednesday 24 July will affect all public transport, including taxis, trains and ferries, while the strike on Friday 26 July will affect air travel.

In Rome public transport will be at risk for four hours on 24 July, from 12.30 until 16.30, involving the entire ATAC network including buses, metro, trams, and light rail services Roma-Lido, Termini-Centocelle and Roma-Civitacastellana-Viterbo, in addition to the suburban bus routes operated by Roma TPL.

The strike action has been called by trade unions protesting over the «absence of strategic responses» in the transport plan being put forward by the government which, they claim, has excluded union representatives from talks.
